Infosys says no active business relationship with Russian enterprises

Bengaluru, 26 March IT major Infosys has been caught in the cross hairs of the Russia-Ukraine conflict inadvertently.

Earlier, reports in the United Kingdom raised questions over alleged link of Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy's son-in-law and the UK's Chancellor of Exchequer Rishi Sunak to Russia due to his wife's minority ownership in the IT major.

Infosys, which operates in more than 50 countries across the world, has a small centre in Russia. The IT major in a statement, clarified its business operations in Russia saying that it didn't have any Russian enterprise as client.

"Infosys has a small team of employees based out of Russia, that services some of our global clients, locally. We do not have any active business relationships with local Russian enterprises," the company said in a statement. The Bengaluru-headquartered IT major had also announced a commitment of $1 million towards relief efforts for victims of the war.

Sunak has also clarified that he has nothing to do with Infosys. Indian IT companies have very less exposure to Russia as a geography with marginal contribution to their revenues. Companies, which have set up centres in the country, usually serve their other clients operating in this geography.

Since the beginning of Russia-Ukraine conflict, more than 330 companies have either announced a plan to leave Russia or suspended operations. Global giants like Google, Apple, Meta, Adobe, Dell, DXC Technology, HP, IBM, Intel, SAP, Twitter, YouTube, and a host of other companies have decided to leave Russia.
